Very nice. Shit situation you're in, but somehow the "marketing" premise
that an unhappy customer tells a dozen people about it is
out of the window
here.
Your site's starting to circulate mailing lists, which is
where I got the
link.
Now, I daresay that as long as you keep it factual, or
very clearly "in my
opinion" where relevant, there's not a thing Arnold
can do about it, so best
of luck and I hope you find some time to assemble whinges
of dread that get
reported to you.
Right, I've had no gripe with Arnold myself - all I've
used is the hire
division and it's been great to date, but a good friend
of mine has had a
grim interaction with them;
An R reg Jeep Cherokee was bought. The tracking was
all to hell on it, so
it was booked in to get it set up properly. They
did so, but it came back
pretty much the same. They then fanned around,
involving other garages or
some such, until eventually my mate got it back with the
tracking in order.
Inexplicably somebody had made a mess of a couple of the
wheel nuts on one
of the front wheels (not that we know why the wheels were
off in the first
place - all the tracking bits are readily accessible with
the wheels in
place). They also kindly swapped the wheels to the
back, possibly to avoid
detection? We know this cos Alan had actually
marked the wheels with small
nicks on the rim, 1-4, prior to returning the vehicle.
This isn't the good bit. The good bit is that when
he went to see the wheel
that /had/ been on the front and which was now on the
back, his eye was
drawn to his tail light - broken glass and scuff on the
bumper!
This STILL isn't the good bit. He would quite
happily have assumed he'd
had the glass/bumper damage in a car park in the 24hrs
between getting the
car back and noticing the damage, but some TIT had
actually tried to cover
the bumper damage with a touch-in pen. Which of
course is what you do when
you ding somebody in a car park, isn't it? Doh.
Arnold denied being responsible for this. Strange
then that exactly the
same slightly wrong colour of green touch in pen was used
on that bumper as
Arnold DEFINITELY used to touch in a scratch on the door
during pre-delivery
prep as Alan had requested at his point of purchase.
Coincidence? Go
figure...
There's another one about somebody who put their 2 year
old Micra (owned
from new) in for a service and got it back in fine order
- except the
battery now kept running flat. AA man called out on
one such occasion drew
her attention to the fact that the battery was not only
not even the type
supplied with Micras by Nissans, but that it appeared to
have been
manufactured 2 years prior to the car. Hmm. Sadly
this story is a verbal
only, and I can't back it up, no matter how reliable the
source. Food for
thought though.
Anyway, good luck with the campaign. And a fine
choice of domain name.
That'll cause HAVOC when the search engines get stuck
into it. >:-))

Just stopping by to wish you luck. I have noticed for
some months now
that Arnold Clark had left all their domains out
there waiting for
something like this to happen.
When they take you off to Barlinnie, remember to insist
on your human
rights and you want a single ensuite cell. :-)
Thanks for brightening up my day.
best of luck.

Delighted to see your site: he richly deserves some
adverse publicity.
I bought a new Peugeot 306 from his Tollcross, Edinburgh
branch in 1994. To
cut a long story short my experiences (and I've been
driving and owning cars
for over thirty years) have ensured that I'll never again
buy a Peugeot
(from anybody) nor any vehicle or service from any part
of the Arnold Clark
organization.
Good luck with your campaign. Have you submitted
that URL to all the search
sites? - don't wait for them to find you. Also BBC
Watchdog may be
interested

I have been having a good look through your
web page and I noticed a couple of complaints about "MISSING SERVICE
RECORDS" now isn't it funny that the missing service record also
apply to myself. I bought a Ford Mondeo from Arnold Clark Automobiles in Aberdeen last month and low and behold it was sold to me with a FULL service history but so far the full service history has not been verified in hard copy. I thought I was dealing with a reputable company and when the salesman told me it had a full service history I did believe him. now that I have the car and they have the sale tucked away ( and no doubt the cash) this service history that they told me about does not seem to want to come out to play. Now the car might very well have a FULL service history so where is Mr. Clark? and while we are on the subject could you tell me where the car mats your salesman promised are? can you also tell me what happened to the phone call that was again promised with the radio code information? I'm still waiting for the log book. did that get sent off to Swansea? or will that go missing also? & by the time I get it will it be too late to complain about the extra owners? I was hoping that your company might deliver your Promises delivered slogan but I was so disappointed with the whole concept. your not very good at what you do.

Guess who! Excellent site by the way :-)
By the way, http://www.arnold.clark.com/
seems to be available too... he he he!
Yup, we were robbed by these tossers! The
Grangemouth branch too. We ordered some touch up paint
for our little FIAT, (pale blue.) They had only the touch up
sticks in stock, so we got one of those right away and ordered a can of
the touch up spray paint, paying for the lot on the spot.
This was some months ago.
We still don't have the spray paint, and when we visited
them a while back to enquire as to where our paint was, they were so
incredibly busy all of a sudden and no one could be found who either had
time to talk to us or who knew what we were talking about.
Needless to say, we will no doubt wait until Hell freezes over!

FUEL GAUGE packed in on a brand new
Nissan Primera from Arnold Clark Stirling. When I phoned to see about a
repair I was told a week and if I was lucky 2 days to repair. So I
pranced about for a week hoping that I would not run out as they would not
look at the car if there was petrol in it the day arrived when the car was
to be repaired Drove in to the service car park and presented gleaming log
book service book and extended warranty {shite} Only to be told that car
was to be moved 20 feet to reception car park I was then to report
to imbecile sitting next to prat at service desk and then they would move
the car to service I EXERCISED MY 30 DAY NO QUIBBLE RETURN AND
TOLD BOTH TO STICK THE CAR UP THEIR ARSEHOLES IF THE PETROL WOULD TAKE IT
THAT FAR .

I bought a Fiat Punto from them eight weeks
ago - paid the card price, by cash and no trade. The car has had a
major system installed since then at no cost to me, but another fault has
arisen at a cost of £738! Fiat has agreed to pay half but I've to
remainder to pay.

41 point service for £69 quid? what a laugh that one is.
more like a 6 point service, up with the bonnet. change plus and air
filter. up on the ramp drop oil out of sump, replace oil filter have a
quick look round to see that there is water in radiator expansion tank
and windscreen washers. pour some oil onto door hinges give top of
battery a wipe just to make it look like some one was there. shut bonnet
and stick out in the customers car part and wait for mug to return and
remove 69 quid from him/her. if its quiet try and find things that you
can replace at a cost to customer like brake pads, handbrake cable,
bushes, ball joints, slave cylinders wipers etc these are all easy to
fit and make money for the wee man. if only the general public knew what
went on when their wee car gets driven through the workshop door. I work
at one of Arnolds branches and I would never ever let some of the idiots
that work there anywhere near my car, it is a source of bewilderment to
me that people!
e actually think their car will be looked after while in
here. the fact is we don't give a f*** about the customers car. I have
seen mechanics and apprentices wheel spinning brand new cars around the
spare ground at the back, smoke and rubber flying off the tyres. .
famous 41 point service ? famous cause we do f*** all except the above,
zoom, zoom, screech, screech. thank you for doing business with
Arnold Clark Automobiles. now give us the cash and get the F*** out of
here.

I hired a tuition car from Arnold Clark near
Falkirk - I had been taking lessons for a few months so I thought it
would be a piece of cake. Anyway, the car kept on stalling and the
rubber covers on the pedals were falling off. Whenever I started the
car, it made a rattling noise! Please do not shop at Arnold Clark -
it does suck!

Bought a Ford Maverick from A C Dundee Kingsway October
2000.since then have had to pay for new hubs new cam shaft and was about
to pay for anti roll bar drop down links.
The car never made it because the gear box has gone!!!
Had the 4x4 for 3 months when it had to go back cause 4x4
was not working, I was told that the hubs needed to be replaced, they
told us that it would be £375 per hub and we told them to jump! After
all the ad on the radio at the time said "come to Arnold Clark
where you buy a car not a tub" we told them we bought a 4x4 and to
get it sorted, never the less they told us that the warranty was out but
as a gesture of good will they would foot the bill bar £50.
got 4x4 still didn't work they took it back and said that
something had not been put back in housing and was causing the problem.
we never had it in 4x4 after that but come may2002 it
went in for a service and was told that the cam shaft was about to drop
off and break pipes had corroded. it cost us £485 to get this work
done.
sept 2002 driving down road and gear box goes, takes it
to a garage they look at it and its completely shot!
further inspection throws up the fact that the hubs (the
ones that were replaced had been reneging when they should not have and
put stress on the bell housing.
so we have a maverick that cost us £5995 plus trade in
not even two years ago that has no gear box, cant get a second hand one
at the moment nor can we get any joy from A C DUNDEE.
THOUGH HAD A GOOD CHAT WITH OFFICE OF FAIR TRADING AND
AWAITING ON REPORT FROM A C TO WHAT WAS DONE TO HUBS (they don't know
what I am away to do with this report though). SO WE HAVE A DEAD CAR AND
COSTING US £2000 TO GET IT BACK ON THE ROAD AND THAT'S NOT A NEW GEAR
BOX EITHER.
OH OFFICE OF FAIR TRADING ALSO CALLED UP A RECALL ON THE
MAVERICK ON ITS BREAK PIPES, A C DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO CHECK THAT ONE
OUT SO THEY WILL BE GETTING BILL FOR THAT TOO!
WE WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THE COMPANY FOR PURCHASING OR
SERVICING EVER AGAIN AS WE DID GET A TUB NOT A CAR!.
