Arnold Clark has a captive market in Edinburgh being one
of the fewer dealerships
with a base
in the centre of Edinburgh and also marketing Peugeot
cars which have considerable
driver
appeal.
I am extremely unhappy with my dealings with them but
this is only the second time
in
my life that I have bought a second hand car from a
dealer. The contrast between
dealings
with a back street garage run by friends and the outlet
of a major dealer seems
considerable.
The four year old Peugeot was overpriced in my opinion..
I was told the dent I
noticed
just after I bought the car had appeared during my
possession which did not make
sense.
All repairs they did seem to involve replacing
unnecessary components. My back
street
garage friend pointed out that on one bill work had been
effectively charged for
twice
and on another replacement of parts were probably as a
result of damages inflicted
in a previous repair.
More worrying for a year and a half my car produces a
grinding noise once it is
warmed up
which comes and goes and neither Arnold Clark or any
other garage can diagnose
correctly.
This makes the car very difficult to sell privately.
The free courtesy car for replacing parts under warranty
was a waste of time after
all the
procedure arranging insurance cover under my policy.
I am sorry I do not have a list of all the repairs and
components. Letters of
complaints
to Mr. Arnold Clark just gave me the offer of a free
service - which might not be
free
as parts might be replaced unnecessarily.
The impression I got from numerous visits to Arnold
Clark's garage
was that staff were well aware there were numerous
problems in the
organization.

hi tam, I e mailed you a few weeks back about Arnold
Clark, Allison st.
Glasgow.
I bought a fiat and they lost my red key.1000 pound to
replace ecu key.
they also told me it was a 98 car and it turned out to be
a 97.there is
a lot more to this story, forged signatures by salesman
on finance agreements etc.
anyway after 2 months of hassle I am getting my money
back tomorrow, wed 27
and I am hopefully meeting up with a Sunday mail
reporter, when I hand the car over.
I still cant read any of the messages on your site, but
why don't you try and get everyone to write to watchdog around the same
time .they will take action if there is enough complaints.
just because I have got my car problems sorted I will
still carry on trying to name and shame Arnold Clark for all the hassle
I have received.
keep up this web site and I hope you get your car sorted
yours sincerely

I Feel the same way you do!!!
I've Had so much shit from Arnold Clark, They took out a
£400 Sony CD Multi Changer Which they replaced with a Phillips, Fitted
crap warped discs, offered to fit a £900 steering rack (to a 99 t
Renault Laguna!!) Refused to replaced the warped discs until I got
the Steering rack replaced!
There's much much more but I won't bore you.
I'll post this on the message board if you want.

I wish I'd found your site before buying a Micra from AC
in Liverpool. I'll bet they charge £2.00 for filling a wash bottle too.
Thanks for the warnings though. I'm going to remove my spare wheel and
rims (and anything else that's loose) before I send our brand new car
for service in April 2003
The thing is though aren't all dealers the same
anyway?

Hi I have already put my
comments on this site before but when I was having a read again today I
seen a guy telling us about his Saxo VTS he had purchased from Arnold
Clark this is a message for that person. I purchased a new Saxo VTR from
Arnold Clark ABERDEEN and I have had all the same shit happening to my car
although my cd did not stop working as I put in a new one myself. My paint
started flaking off which after a big fight with Arnold Clark I got it
re-done and I made sure they done all the bumper again after they tried to
touch it up (I could have done that myself). My car has already been to
get the window fixed after a rattle started and oh its doing it again!!
its also now scratched the glass in big lines all over the window. I have
got the loud clunking noise from the car and it has been two garages to
check it out no one knows what it is!!! My car went to a another dealer to
have a check not long after I got it to be told that every nut and bold
was just about to fall off the car. My front passenger seat was
moving about and it came to the point when I nearly went through the
window, so once again in to the shit hole of a company and got told
nothing wrong! so I went to another dealer who said the seat rails were
not clicking together right got a new seat base from them no problems
since. They must think I don't know anything about cars because I am a
woman but you Arnold Clark let me tell that my partner works for
Glenvarigill Honda so do mess with me mate. So all you fellow Saxo owners
your not the only one.

Bought fiat Brava from crow rd branch in Jan. advertised
as 27000 miles ,I paid for it then the sales man told me on the
mot it said 62000 ,they refused to give me back my money or choose
another car. they said the cars mileage was correct when I asked if they
had investigated it they said no we have a declaration from the previous
owner phoned the garage that gave it a mot and on computer they had
62000.,said it was highly unlikely it was a mistake Arnold got
them to issue me with another mot certificate.
trading standards are investigating my case. I'll
keep you informed.

Been reading the comments on your site with interest as
I'm currently employed by Arnold in one of his XXXXXX branches.
I could tell you of some real howlers that I've seen in my time (X years
now)..... write-off's, no safety checks, dodgy MOTs... you name it, I've
seen it. . no bad thing cos the new Service Manager there's a
complete ARSEHOLES... heard on the grapevine that he was partly
responsible for getting his last place almost closed for stuffing his
customers for unnecessary work.
The problem with Arnold's branches is he sells so many
different marques from each one it becomes an impossibility to buy the
correct manufacturers diagnostic equipment for each one. These
systems cost the dealers between 8K and 25K per unit and trust me....
that's a helluva lot of money for any dealer. Having said that,
why not just take a problem car to the relevant dealer? Do they
buggery.... if there's a warning light on the dash why not just strip it
down and take the bulb out? Problem solved!!! (seen that!)
Then there's his service staff! Why not save some
money and employ daft wee lassies with no technical knowledge whatsoever
to work in their service departments. Ever wondered why your
problems don't get fixed?? Believe me, take it from someone who
knows..... the guys in the workshops can only fix some things if they
have the right information to work on in the first place and in most
cases they information they collect is just plain nonsense. Now,
the other option would be to train them.... HAH HAH HAH HAH...
what's training in the AC organization? Never heard or seen that!
Don't even start me on the salesmen! Most of them
are sharks of the worst kind.... even the so-called "employee
discount" scheme's a con. Try actually buying one, they wont
sell their employees cars cos they make more money stuffing you guys
with overpriced shit.
In case you haven't noticed I'm a little pissed off with
this company. If there's anything any of you would like to know
that'd be of help, post a message here and I'll find out if I can.
Webmasters note: please let me know whatever you can.

I purchased a car from your Fiat Dealership in Galloway
Avenue, Ayr on the 3rd September 2002. It is now 11th October 2002 and I
have only had the car out of the garage two weeks out of five. The first
time the car went in I gave them a list of faults wrong with the car,
one was rectified and the rest was left. On this occasion the car was in
five days. The next time the car was in the bumper was out of line and
the car went in on the 1st October 2002 and I still don't have the
car back and it is now 11th October 2002, the faults from the first time
were put down again this time on paper. I have spoken to the service
department this evening to be told that I can collect the car tomorrow
morning. They say I need a new mirror and the car is now out of warranty
but this fault has been registered since the second time in the garage.
I think that I should get an extended warranty as I have not had the car
on the road a month yet. I would not recommend the AYR Fiat Garage to
anyone!
. I have bought my cars for the past 13 years from Arnold
Clark and so does my wife. I hope all of this will be noted.

I purchased a 1996 Renault Laguna from Arnold Clark
Parkhall in December 1999. Within days it was back in to get the key fob
re-coded and soon thereafter the drivers door handle refused to work,
luckily the work was done under the 1 month "warranty".
I did make sure my trade in had no spare wheel, tools,
carpets, radio, tax disc etc so here's one for all the unhappy
customers..
