I bought a car from the VOLVO
dealership of Arnold Clark in Kirkcaldy. When I inspected the car, I
pointed out to the salesman (wolf in sheep’s clothing and a pervert )
that the rear passenger tyre was bald and would need replacing. Not a
problem he said, it would be fixed before I collected the car. True to his
word the car was ready at 09:00 hours (NOT) instead I managed to collect
it at 16:30. I gave the car a quick inspection and sure enough the tyre
was brand new. I was a little pissed off that he put in £2:00 worth of
petrol to let me get to the nearest garage. F@cking cheapskates as I had
just given the £5000 for the bloody thing. Next day I was checking where
the accessories were and discovered the devious B@stard had swapped it
with the spare. I jumped on the phone and called them to find out why and
was told the tyre was legal so they wouldn't change it. NOW ! considering
this tyre was Kojak's twin brother you can understand why I was a little
pissed off. I tried to plead my case to the garage only to be fobbed of
with technical bullshit about tyre legalities within the EU. I asked to
speak to the dealer manager but was told there was none available to speak
to me. Several phone calls later, I was getting nowhere. I visited the
garage and was met by the YTS guy with pimples and bad breath. This was
the poor sod that they sent out to see me. Yep, you guessed it, they all
hid in the workshop and sales office. I knew it was not worth while asking
this poor defenseless excuse for a mechanic anything, after all he did
have a broom in his hand sweeping up the leaves outside. IMPORTANT JOB !!
I decide to play the b@startds at their own game and see how far I could
take it. After all, I had nothing to loose, they had my hard earned cash.
I took the car to several tyre companies, they all said the tyre was not
legal and suggested I purchase a new one from them. When I explained the
situation, they all gave me the bum steer not wanting to get involved.
However, a small private tyre practice in Crossgates made no bones about
it. The tyre was not legal and I would be prosecuted by the police if I
was found to have it as a spare. A little light bulb sprung above my head
and I decided to call Arnold ( ok the garage ) and pull a fly one. I said
I had taken the car to the local police station and explained to them what
had happened. I said the police checked the tyre and that it was not legal
for use on the road. Well before he could scrape the shit from his arse
with his copy of playboy, he asked if I would bring the car in to have the
tyre changed. Knowing by the tone of his voice that I now had him by the
balls, I SAID NO, you can pick the bloody thing up and change it, then
deliver it back to me. He grudgingly agreed to collect the spare and fix
it. Next day, I received a brand new CHEAPEST of the CHEAP TYRE you could
get as a spare. BUT AT LEAST I BEAT THE B@astards. ONE IN THE EYE FOR YOU

McHarg Rennie & Lindsay don't know if I got the spelling correct but I do know they are part of the Arnold Empire and differ not a jot from the way in which they treat their customers. My purchase from them went up in smoke with an overheated engine six weeks after purchasing the thing. Other problems included strange grinding noises from the wheels, wipers that scratched the windscreen, a windscreen that came back cracked after being put into the branch to have the engine looked at. The engine was repaired with a piece of tin foil paper which eventually led to the engine overheating again and eventually costing £500 to be re-conditioned (not at an Arnold garage and at my own expense) because of the damage done by the overheating. I was advised not to bother with the Daily Record/ Sunday Mail etc as they get too much in advertising revenue to make any noise about Arnold.

Arnold Clark in Aberdeen .... 1
week after the warranty ran out the cam belt broke .. £700.00 worth of
damage ...before I bought the car they said they had changed it .... on
further investigation they tell me that it was the cam belt tensioned that
had failed and not the cam belt so I didn't have any come back ...what
stupid fuckers would not notice that there was something wrong with the
cam belt tension when they were changing the cam belt tried to get
compensation but they already put the car back together so no one could
see what a fuck up they had made .I refused to pay and they refused to
give me my car back ..eventually they gave me £200.00 as a good will
gesture .... I had already spent more than that in another garage getting
the power steering fixed ..... spent more than £3000 in two and a half
years ...bastards ..I hope there next shit is a porcupine....

I purchased a Assent TVI back in
May, When I collected the car ,There was an agreement that the back bumper
would be painted as there was a chip out of the glass-fibre. When I picked the car up all looked great, Within two weeks the part that was filled in and painted turned a totally different colour of yellow. As I work abroad it has taken a few months for me to make an appointment for doing the work, I have spoke to the salesman who sold me the car, And he assures me that THE WORK SHALL BE DONE WHEN THE AUGUST NEW SALES ARE OUT OF THE WAY IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, I also told him that since I complained about the paint botch-up, the car has bad balancing and it sounds like one or two of the back bearings are on there way out. Stay watched for the out come.

I BOUGHT A CAR AT MY LOCAL
RENAULT DEALER. I HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR SUCH AS THE BIC UNIT WAS
FAULTY. (WHATEVER THAT IS) IT WAS GOING TO COST MYSELF £325.00 JUST FOR
THE LABOUR AND £219.00 FOR THE "BIC". I HAVE ONLY HAD MY CAR
FOR 18 MONTHS AND THIS HAPPENED. THE YOUNG GENTLEMEN I SPOKE TO WHO WAS A
TRAINEE WAS A GREAT HELP, THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WITH HIM WAS THE FACT
THAT THE MANAGER WOULD NOT SPEAK TO ME. (POOR BOY). THE MATTER GOT SOLVED
THE LONG WAY. BUT IT AS TERRIBLE. THEY SPLIT ME 50-50 WHICH TO DATE I'M
NOT HAPPY WITH OBVIOUSLY. ONE WORD OF ADVICE "DON'T GO TO ARNOLD
CLARK - CON MERCHANT.

I have been trying to get an
intermittent fault fixed on my car for 6 months. the car just cuts out, or
the rev counter is erratic I have been informed that the car
has no fault. . mechanics at the garage witnessed this fault, however the
management at Machargs say they never.

What a cracking site, better
than the cracking shite from Machargs (that's the other name Arnold robs
under, oops sorry, trades under) Castlebank street Glasgow in my case.
Last month I bought a used Ford Galaxy, an unroadworthy vehicle, with a
full years mot, from day 1,dodgy brakes, air-con car with no air-con,
soaking wet rear shocker, that I was told on a return visit, was fine,
hole in the exhaust, that the service dept told me was to let the water
out, how nice, so when it breaks down, and I'm stranded, I'll not die of
thirst, I'll just suck some water out the hole. I put it into another
garage, guess what?, failed it's mot, what on, dodgy brakes, leaky
exhaust, and an insecure rear shocker, strange cos Machargs only fitted it
7 day's ago. So my next step? trading standards, lawyer, department of
transport then the finance company, after all they own the vehicle. I'll
keep you informed of the outcome, by the way, they have me on iggy on the
phones as well. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK see u up in bar,.

Since a lot of the people on this website are complaining
about the service they received from Armies I thought it only fair to
put the technicians point of view's I worked at Armies in Dundee for a
few years and during that time I never received any dealer training
Although it was promised many times). Most of the technicians there were
also in the same boat. We were constantly taken off 1 job to do another.
Also we were expected to work overtime at the drop of a hat. Expected to
be able to fix any car regardless of age or make. They supposed we were
mind-readers, we virtually had to be, because most of the time Reception
supplied us with the wrong fault details. We also had to argue with the
parts dept since any time they ordered the wrong parts ( frequently)
they wouldn't believe us when we told them they had. Constant arguments
with salesmen over what the cars actually needed to be roadworthy, they
never wanted to spend any money on the cars it cuts into their
commission). The management!
t was a joke, Headless chickens could run that place
better. All this and more for the superb wage of between £5 and £7 per
hour when Arnie is charging £44 per hour. Most of the technicians do
try hard and do take pride in their work but when you see what they are
up against is it any wonder that mistakes are made? .

I have just stumbled across this
complaints page and have to say I am not at all surprised that it exists!
Both my mother and my sister have cars bought from Arnold Clark (new) and
have received despicable service with regard to servicing and repairs.
Arnold Clark have consistently shrugged responsibility for faulty central
locking-on a NEW car!!! And have charged ridiculous sums of money for work
which was NOT requested. This applies to both my mother's and my sister's
cars. When my mother last put her car in for a mileage service, the car
came back with extra mileage and was also seen by family friends being
driven around the street of Glasgow and Renfrewshire!! When questioned
about this, Arnold Clark of course denied ALL knowledge and said that it
would have been driven out of the fore-court perhaps , before and after
any maintenance. Wince when though did it take 54 miles to move a car out
of a forecourt and back?? When phoning Arnold Clark we have also been
victims of manner less employees. On one occasion I was told there was
no-one able to take my call and that they" were too busy" and
"you will have to phone back later". On the second attempt I was
assure that someone would call me back. Of course no-one did and I had to
threaten a letter to head office before anyone would even listen to me let
alone do what I requested. The staff on their phones need to learn manners
, and some pronunciation skills. All in all, my advice is NOT to have any
dealings with them. They have behave unprofessionally, are expensive,
unhelpful, dishonest and manner less. An honest EX customer!!
