Hi great site, about time
someone did this. I bought a Peugeot 405 from their St Georges Road branch
in Glasgow in 1995. The salesman was a twat call Paul nardell. After
having the car for about a week, i got a letter saying that my bank
details for the direct debits was wrong. The finance company sent me a new
form and a copy of the one Arnold Clark's had sent in. The copy of the
original form had me branch down as the Olympia in east kilbride, when i
know my branch is in springburn, Glasgow. The account number & sort
code were not the ones i filed in either, and most importantly, the
signature with my name wasn't signed by me. I went straight to the top of
the house and spoke to Arnold himself, who's a right leech. He said it
must have been my mistake, but surely i would know my own bank details,
and what my signature looked like? When i tried to complain about the salesman,
i was told he was one of the best, most experienced salesmen and there's
no way he would have faked my signature & bank details. After days of
fighting, all i got was a 60 quid refund. Within a week of that, the car
started to break down. Well, when i say break down, it wouldn't bloody
start! I had to take time off work to go over on a weekly basis to their Peugeot
branch in mount Vernon for the mechanics to look at it, scratch their
head, and return the car to me unfixed. The car was never right and would
leave me stranded in all sorts of places. Once i had to sleep in the car
overnight because of the fault. Arnold's trusty mechanics could not find a
fault. So i was left with a dud, vowing never to return. The only problem
is finding another decent dealer, since the seem to be buying over other
decent dealer in Scotland. Oh well, think I'll just get a zone card
instead. .

Bought a car from Arnold after
being told it would come with a years MOT, went to pick car up and there
was no MOT, told that this would be posted to me. Waited weeks and still
no MOT certificate. Phoned salesman and kept getting fobbed off. Turned
out MOT had not been done at all. Complained to sales manager who arranged
for MOT to be carried out free of charge. Then discovered that car had
dodgy tyres and some illegal tyres - this really began to piss me off. So
i found out where Arnold lived, and also where all the other directors
lived, and made him an offer he could not refuse. At first he tried to
fobb me off and blame me for all that had gone wrong with the car. I had
to reiterate my offer and explain what i wanted, i made sure he was clear
about this. I detailed to him that i was not mistaken and that his staff
were all incompetent liars. In the end i took an identical car which had
40 thousand less miles and sticker price £750 more which i got at no
additional cost. I still hate the bastard and will do anything to make his
life a misery, nobody threatens and endangers my life and gets away with
it. During my 2 month struggle i found out his mobile phone number, where
he stays, where all his family stay, where all the directors of Arnold
Clark stay and all home telephone numbers for all these people. I still
phone him up occasionally at ungodly hours asking him how much he will
give me as a trade in on my 1976 T registered Cortina. Occasionally i put
his details on to junk mail stuff. To date I've filled out 73 credit card
applications for him..

Strangely I had no problems
buying my Corsa, the problem came a year later when I naively decided to put my car in for its MOT to the Garscube Rd, Glasgow branch. Now bearing in mind that I had bought the car only a year before and it was only 3 years old, ex-mobility and I had only done another 7,000 miles in that year - I was told that I needed all 4 tyres replaced (price quoted £112), new clutch cable (price quoted £70) and light bulb changed under the rear registration plate (quoted £12)!!! This was a grand total of £194! At the time I was a 19-year-old female student living off my part-time job plus poor student loan, this was way beyond my means. Luckily my boyfriend has a keen interest in cars and he was outraged at the prices so we went to the garage and took the car away and gave it to a reputable local garage which specialises in tyre checks. I was told that all 4 tyres looked almost brand new and the clutch cable was fine I was charged nothing for this check). Then I bought a replacement light bulb (49p) and screwed it in myself. I then paid another £42 for another MOT at another garage and it passed with flying colours! Ok so I had to fork out twice for the MOT but overall I saved £152 than I would of if I'd told Arnold Clark to do the work. A prime example of the age-old trick of trying to rip-off young unsuspecting female from the one company I thought would have been professional. No-one I know will deal with Arnold again!

ok here goes this is a long
one... i bought a ROVER 213 quite a nice little motor for the price. it
was the usual 1 month sales warranty but 2 days after picking up the car
and on the way to Carlisle the big ends went in the engine. After
contacting Arnold Clark (Tollcross Edinburgh) we both agreed that the RAC
would bring the car back to them. 3 1/2 weeks later i got the car back
just as the warranty finished. On the road back from Glasgow the next week
a friends son commented on the pool of water in the rear foot well, i took
the car back and was told that since the warranty had now expired it was
my problem. Now bearing in mind that the car had in effect been in their
workshops for the duration of the warranty i was understandably upset.
After causing a scene in the sales area i was given a second hand
replacement carpet big deal it turns out that the car had been in a smash
re-sprayed all four jack points were rusted/busted the car was a mess.
Since it didn't cost me a lot of money and i did get a new engine/half
shafts and gearbox out of them i got a mate to sort the bits that he could
, run the car into the ground and then traded it in for another car to...
yes u guess it another Arnold Clark dealer an! d then traded in again to a
better dealership for a profit... i know it was naughty but they deserved
it.

I would like to let everyone know of my recent experiences with these ass*****. We bought a Fiat Brave for £3500 in 2001 in a hurry as we needed a car urgently. Because of our suspicious nature, we took out the extra warranty. So far so good, the starter motor and the wiper motor both packed in but were repaired under the warranty. However, we booked our car in for a service, MOT recently and the day before, the starter motor went. After about a week in the garage, AC told us that because another AC garage had fitted a reconditioned!!! starter motor, we would need to get it towed to them to repair it. After some more discussion, the garage agreed to fit it. 1 week has passed so far. Next, we got a call saying that our brakes were on their way out. since we were concerned about our brakes anyway, we agreed to get new discs, pads etc. 3 days later we were informed that our brakes had been done but we were then informed that our car would fail its MOT on rear brake light! t, passenger seatbelt and exhaust. As our tax, MOT had ran out, we really didn't have much option but to agree to let AC do the repairs (bad mistake). After a further week, we contacted AC and they informed us they were waiting for the seatbelt part which would arrive on the Friday (2.5 weeks since the car went in, with no courtesy car offered throughout). On phoning them on Friday, we were told that someone had misinformed us (i.e. lied to us) and the part would not arrive until the following week. We are still waiting for this part and our car has been in for over 3 weeks. Asking about the part, we were told that the part had to come from Italy, fair enough but how long can it take to get to the UK and why were we lied to again..

Called at the Motherwell Branch today and saw some Peugeot 206 Diesels that I liked and I thought one would do me for a runaround, Salesman could not let me see the logbook for the one owner vehicle I liked nor could I see the service history. Probably thought I was an awkward customer. I got home and decided to check out the AC site to look for other 206s and your site came up. I like to think that I am a wary buyer (caveat emptor) but have to admit I am shocked at what I have read. It is like taking a step back in time to when the motor trade was a license to rip people off
big time, and I thought the worst was over. Now I will have to try elsewhere. Thank you very much for the benefit of your and other customers experience.

yesterday trade-in price for current vehicle £1,500.00. Went back today to conclude contract and trade-in price had dropped to £1,200.00. Told them to forget it. Also found to our cost their warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on.

have you seen the Dundee Courier adverts regarding the sale of new Fiats? The advert would appear to read NEW CARS HALF PRICE But actually reads nearly NEW CARS almost HALF PRICE The printing of "nearly" and "almost" is so faint that you can hardly read the words. Looks like another of ARNOLDS nasty little tricks! .
