Brilliant Site! Let me tell you the story of my lucky escape. 3 years ago, myself and my fiancée were out looking for a new car, we had seen all the ads in the press (and heard all the pish about nice wee Arnie on Radio Slide) and thought naturally - Arnie - now there's a name you can trust. Anyway, we didn't have loads to spend but thought at the time a good we runaround motor around £5-6K would be just what we needed. After looking round a few cars at Linwood we were ensnared by a smarmy 'top man' repeating salesman. We discussed our requirements and felt we had negotiated a good deal for a wee Escort that'd done just shy of 11,000 miles. Guy was desperate to conclude the sale there and then and we thought; well we'll pay a deposit £100 and take it off the lot, sort out our own finance (thank you very much) and conclude the deal later that week. Thank God we did. My brother, who was home on leave and is a mechanic in the RAF, offered to come with us the following week just to give the car the once over, which was great as we'd never bought one before but even he thought it'll probably be OK. Funny thing is when we arrived he took one brief look and started shaking his head - Ye cannae buy this!. At that point the sales guy came bounding out expecting a deal to close except what he got was his bollocks booted (proverbially - lucky man!). My brother had noticed that the doors were not aligned properly and look underneath to check it out even more. My brother asked if he could see it up on a ramp and the guy refused. He then promptly gave us our deposit back and scuttled away - not wishing a scene to put off other prospective mugs. We never did check the VIN, but my brother suspects that the car had been an insurance write off, I passed by on my way to work a few days later and the car was nowhere to be seen. I think we were lucky, I wonder if anyone else has experienced this kind of thing. I will never, ever visit Arnold Clark again - that type of thing is just complete pish and I hope they get taken down big style by someone.. |

Great to stumble across a site dealing with a group of motor dealers who I know no-one has received good service from. Most of your contributors complain of service from his Scottish branches, well now the man 'who demands the most from his staff so they only deliver the best' has branched North of the border and in particular 'infested' Liverpool with his dealerships. We purchased a Citreon Saxo from his Citreon dealership in Aigburth Liverpool. Never buy anything from them EVER, or do so at your peril!! Having been mis sold the finance package and made to sign at 7pm on a Friday 'rushed', so we couldn't possibly have time to study the documentation properly, we then acquired a car which was in the garage more than 8 times in the first 6 months and never properly dealt with. 2 of the problems remain today, but we have given up on Mike Dolan (Branch manager) and his crap crew who know about as much about servicing cars and the law of Sale of Goods as my 82 year old grandmother. Their supposed services are non existent and we have even had the AA confirm that their actions have damaged the car. The net result is, we will be getting rid of the car as soon as possible (it has cost a fortune and has many problems considering it has such low mileage and age) and are avoiding Arnie and his cowboy crooks like the plague. What astonishes me is that he! is able to acquire the dealerships of so many reputable car manufacturers and yet consistently blacken their name. Will let you know if we ever receive any joy from his Liverpudlian connection, but wouldn't hold my breath! Keep up the good work of advertising how bad this lot are to try and compensate for the voluminous lying ads they like to broadcast over local radio!! . |

I
bought a 1998 Citroen Xsara from Arnold Clark in Kirkcaldy, and from the
sounds of it I’ve been quite lucky as the car (so far) is mechanically
sound. What upset me most of
all was that when I test drove it all I could smell was polish and after I
got it home for a couple of weeks it smelled like a wet dog’s backside.
I have never smelled anything so foul in all my life.
After a long and grueling battle with big I
am trying to be succinct to save space here but in truth the list is
endless – Mr. Westwater told us loads of blatant lies and would probably
kill his own grandmother for a bit of extra commission.
What is most annoying out of all of this is that Mr. Westwater, his
boss and all the staff at Kirkcaldy Honda ignore your calls, promise to
phone back and don’t, and ignore your letters.
Even the customer services manager at I’m
going to go to the showroom on Saturday afternoon and kick up a fuss –
if I still don’t get my free service I’ll be kind of glad, because I
can then take my business elsewhere and sever all ties with this bunch of
idiots. Hope
this website reaches many who are considering buying a car from Arnold
Clark and warns them of the obvious dangers – I’ll definitely email it
to all my mates. Best of
luck, I purchased a 1 year old fiat
Punto from Arnold Clark and from day 1 I had

I BOUGHT A PEUGEOT 405 FROM
ARNIE A FEW YEARS AGO AND IT WOULDN'T START DUE TO A FLAT BATTERY JUST 3 HOURS AFTER LEAVING THE GARAGE. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM ON THE MONDAY THE GARAGE FOREMAN SAID " YOU SEEM A BIT UPSET" TOO BLOODY RIGHT I WAS UPSET WHOEVER BROUGHT IT TO THE FORECOURT MUST HAVE HAD TO JUMP START IT TO GET IT THERE. ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SUNROOF LEAKING ONCE AGAIN ARNIES WEREN'T INTERESTED IT TOOK ME NEARLY SIX MONTHS OF COMPLAINING AND TWO LETTERS TO ARNIE HIMSELF BEFORE THE FAULTS WERE REPAIRED ON AN OTHERWISE EXCELLENT CAR (UNTIL I CRASHED IT!) |

3 years ago i decided to buy an mx5 from a
Glasgow branch and saw the salesman, booked a test drive and decided to proceed. they
offered me a trade in figure of less than half the market value of my current car and
wouldn't budge. in fact the salesman became very rude and condescending. so
i left and wrote a letter of complaint to the big yin himself. I got a phone call from himself and in his patronizing manner he agreed to compromise with me and raise the trade in value to a more realistic level still below the value]...I went back to the showroom and was treated with some courtesy and we arranged the paperwork and just before i signed i noticed that the balance figure was higher than i expected...when i queried it i was told the trade in figure was the original one offered. I told the salesman i had spoken to the boss and had been promised a higher figure. I told the salesman to phone his leader and get the promised and true trade in value.....he returned after 10 mins and said that AC had never heard of me never spoken to me and never had a letter from me......i tore up the agreement and walked out with the salesman shouting that they would sue because i had a verbal agreement with them and the car had been ordered to my specifications and i couldn't go back on it....i went elsewhere for my mx5 and never heard from them again despite another letter of complaint to AC himself. |

shocking after sales service. "customer service" has never been more of a contradiction in terms. I was lied to about insurance group of car so it didn't leave showroom until I had went to check for my self. |

My wife is disabled so we went to
Arnold Clark in Kirkcaldy and bought a 1998 Citroen Saxo 1.4 auto, it was meant to be fully serviced with a service history, well we didn't get the service history, and as for the service, they had put in 3 pints of oil more than should of been. I put it down to being unlucky, after that her Saxo was written off by another motorist. So we went back to Arnold Clark to get another Saxo, they said we'll get one exactly the same as the one you had, when it came it looked pretty good. once the deal was done and we got the car home, its only after a few days that you notice things like over spray on the paintwork, so it had been poorly repaired, it also stank inside, plus they had overfilled the oil by 2 pints this time, utter cowboys I haven't told my wife this as she has enough problems of her own, But I'll never buy from Arnold Clark ever again.. |

hi, looking to buy a van, typed in 'vans at
Arnold Clark's I thought that they were a reputable dealer, after reading the comments I won't go near them, I appreciate that any company can have unhappy customers and that there are two sides to every story but these comments were constructive and I accept them. Perhaps Arnold Clark should start taking notice. Keep up the good work. |
