READ HERE WHAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY

I bought a car from Arnold Clark, took out the extra cover
2 months down the line bushes went on the car, sorry
says garage you are not covered, phoned customer services
no help there. They are good at taking your money but
crap after..

Bought a Volvo S40 from Machargs in Broxburn ( part of Arnold Clark ), S227CSC ,
great car , no problems , another new arrival to the family meant we needed a
bigger car , we traded the S40 in for an 850 P318WGD at Arnold Clark Citroen in
Armadale , first day we had it , it kept cutting out , it was in and out of the
garage several times and was supposedly sent to a Volvo garage to get checked
out , when I took it to another Volvo Garage (Murray Volvo) the chap asked how I
had crashed the car !! , I replied that I had never crashed the car , the
mechanics and service manager pointed out that the passenger side front wing and
inner wing had been replaced , both drivers doors had been repaired and the rear
bumper had been repaired , there was overspray over service stickers on the
engine , and the seam sealer had been applied by hand , both inner wings were a
totally different shade of blue , eventually I asked for my old car back , and
had to refinance it as they insisted that!
t the car was fine - I don't know about anybody else but I certainly don't like
my family driving around in an accident damaged / repaired car . I took my old
car back stopped paying it and drove it through to the collection agency in
Coatbridge myself . Previously we had bought 2 other Volvo's from Machargs and
we had NO problems with any of these Sandy Crane and Robert Maxwell made sure
both cars were A1 before I picked them up.
Incidentally one of my previous cars , an Automatic 850 N651DSC , is still
around my local area with a lower mileage on it presently than I had traded it
in with!!! .

bought a used car in October from AC it was still under a 4 year anti
corrosion warranty so when I took it home and found rust I phoned up to see
about getting it fixed. They did not return my calls and had to chase them up
after 6 months the car went into be fixed supposed to take 3 days took 11.When I
got it back interior was scratched with what appeared to be a knife, they denied
this and said they weren't in the car which is rubbish as inside was filthy. They
failed to replace the windscreen properly which left a whistling noise when I
went over 50mph, there is also a small dent in the bonnet which was certainly
not there, not to mention the attitude of staff who talk to you like shit and
are nothing but a bunch of bullies. I will never buy a car from them again. .

Upon return from a business trip I had a mailing from Fiat UK advising of a
Vehicle Safety Recall Notice on my Wife's 1996 Fiat Punto TD SX, due
potential corrosion problems on the brake lines. I booked the car into
Arnold Clark's Fiat dealership in McCall's Avenue, Ayr, Scotland, for the
check but before taking it there I took the opportunity of putting it into
an independent garage in the morning for it's annual MOT check. Imagine my
horror when told that the brake lines were burst, brake oil was leaking out,
it had clearly been that way for some time as the pipes were heavily
corroded, and the car was unfit to be on the road. The independent garage
had to truck the car to Arnold Clarks for the brake pipe recall as they
considered it unsafe to be on the road!
Now the Arnold Clark connection - unfortunately. First, the car had been MOT
checked at the same Arnold Clark branch for previous three years and nothing
ever said about corroded brake pipes or that Fiat even had an issue with
them. Worth also noting then that in the last year the car has only done
3000 miles. Second, after hearing nothing from Arnold Clark as to if/when
the car would be ready I called to be advised that it could be collected, so
I called my Wife who collected the car and was to take it back to the
independent garage for MOT re-test immediately the same day such that they
could issue the MOT certificate. Immediately upon starting the engine she
heard noises from the engine compartment and found the steering strange. Not
being mechanically minded she thought it something unusual but as the car
was just out of the main Fiat dealer then there shouldn't be anything wrong
(mistake!). After the 5 min/1 mile trip to the independent garage the MOT
examiner immediately failed the car again, because the high pressure hoses
to the power steering pump had not been properly connected to the pump again
after Arnold Clark's technicians had undone them to access the brake pipes!
Steering fluid had spewed out of the pump and power assistance was virtually
gone !
Fortunately the independent garage solved the problem after I complained to
the Arnold Clark branch, but I'm still waiting for the promised phone call
from the Arnold Clark branch Service Centre Manager.
Upon reading all the above and the severe safety implications, it's worth
bringing into consideration that my Wife is currently 8 months pregnant, and
had used the car even in the morning to take my 3 year old to school and 18
month to nursery.
Needless to say I am writing to the Arnold Clark branch, Arnold Clark
himself, Fiat UK, and Which? Consumer Association. Equally I am writing to
the trading standards officer in the local council, and the local MOT
inspectorate, reporting this disgraceful event.

 Arnold Clark Greenock.

terrific site!! anyway here's my story- i bought a brand new vw golf from the
above branch in 1991 and really didn't have any problems with it at all.a year
later i took it down for it's annual service with 9000 miles on the clock .the
service manager came out after about an hour and said that it needed a new
gasket for the rocker cover. i said ok and that i couldn't wait and would
phone during the week ahead to arrange for the work to be carried out.as i was
driving home i decided to pop into a local bearsden garage that my friend
worked in.
as i was talking to my mate i  mentioned that i needed to get a new gasket
fitted. my mate told me to open the bonnet and after a quick look said that it
was only "weeping" and proceeded to nip up the bolts.here is the good bit.....
after taking it to my mates garage for the next nine years for servicing (and
having enjoyed trouble free motoring for nearly ten years), i was told after a
service by my mate that he would need to replace the rocker cover gasket
whereupon i reminded him that arnolds greenock service manager had told me it
needed replaced TEN YEARS PREVIOUSLY.
the moral of the above story is that
don't go to ac greenock for your service24/01/2004

I WORK WITH THEM AND UNLESS YOU KISS ASS...   .YOUR HISTORY.24/01/2004
just came across your site while my boss was looking for a new car.  i am an EX employee of the lovely company and had some terrible times with them. spent 18 months lying to customers, mostly down to the sales department promising things they cant deliver or forgetting to mention when putting paper work through to the service department for a P.D.I (pre delivery inspection) if thats what you want to call it! more like maybe change the oil have a wee look round the car n that was it, not that most of the technicians were happy about doing this, but the sales department didn't want to have to pay the service department that much money. I just want to stick up for us girls that have worked in the service department, some of us DO know what we're talking about!
another thing their staff are treated extremely badly,  let you into a wee secret because i was a JUNIOR service receptionist they managed to get away with paying me £6500 when i first started then after i had been there 18 months my pay was still tiny at £7500.  i was getting more than the apprentices, they always had something to say about their wages!! We lost one of our best technicians to Peoples because of the wage situation. i did really enjoy my job, loving cars and all that and i could probably outdo a few guys with my knowledge about cars!! just wish i hadn't been working for Arnie!!! And for more cash!! I remember the 'lovely' Mr. Clark who used to come in, (looking like crap i might add!!!) and used to comment on and i quote 'what a pleasure it must be to work in a fine establishment like this!!!!' i hope he was taking the piss!!!
All in all Not a fan of Arnold Clark!!!!!!!!!!24/01/2004

My girlfriend bought a Peugeout 306 from Arnold Clarke, Tollcross in March 2002.
Unbelievable!  We experienced everything from bullshitting salesmen to numerous problems with the car. She wanted a 306 turbo diesel which were hard to find and so she really wanted the blue one we found in this garage.  When we requested a test drive, we were told it wasn't possible as the clutch was so tight it wouldn't go into gear.  This was repaired and one week later we could drive it.  THe car drove ok and we agreed to purchase it.
However, the salesman did make one mistake, he left us alone with the car for 45 minutes (don't know what he was doing) in which time we gave the car a very good once over.  We discovered a large 'thumbprint' dent in the bonnet, damaged trim and missing lock knobs in the doors, scuffed paint, the remote key didn't work, nor did the central locking.  The key code for the stereo was also missing.  We said we would buy it only on condition all of the above were repaired. After humming and hahing, he agreed.  After several trips into the garage and several different key codes my girlfriend lost her temper and went in effing and blinding.
The car was sent to a local car stereo fitters and was sorted.  However the central locking was still not working.  We were told this required additional parts and to bring the car back in.  Soon afterwards, we were driving around and realised that the engine was overheating.  We opened the bonnet and found that the radiator had just emptied itself all over the road.  The bottom had fallen off it!
We returned the car again and it was also due and MOT.  As there were less than 3 months MOT on the car when purchased, the salesman told us the car would be put through it's mot for free.
So, the car had the MOT, the radiator fitted and they found numerous other problems and came up with a bill of £350+! which of course we refused to pay as they told us that the MOT was free, the central locking problems had been there since day one with a promise to fix them.  Upon complaining, we were told the salesman had only promised us the cost of the MOT certificate!!!!Bloody cheek.  This meant however, that the rest of the work had been undertaken without our authorisation.  We wrote a letter of complaint to the branch manager and cc'd it to my solicitor in Aberdeen.  THis did the trick. The invoice was dropped and they offered us a free service.  Bollocks to that.  I wouldn't let an Arnold Clarke garage near our car ever again.

This isn;'t the end.  Since then, the car has been serviced and repaired by our local, honest hard working mechanic who has serviced my car for over five years.  There have been no end of problems with it.  The central locking has gone again and the accelerator cable stuck.  UNREAL!  How does he get away with it, thieving old git.24/01/2004

Bought a car from Seafield branch only to be dealt with a lot of shit!!  After
a lot of crap to begin with: wasn't getting the car taxed because they only do
one tax run to the DVLA a day, then the car hadn't been fixed yet, lies and yet
more lies I finally got the car after complaining!  Only to discover the new 1
years MOT which had been promised wasn't 'available' as yet, car wasn't cleaned
it stank of wet dogs!, clutch wasn't fixed, fog lights not working, god awful
rattling noise still there! and we can go on and on. After phoning the manager
again was told to return car and everything would be dealt with, returned the
car only to be told I would have to wait another week and I would have to get my
own courtesy car from my Insurance company as they wouldn't give me one!.....I'm
still in the process of getting this crap dealt with. My advice - stay well away
bunch of cowboys!!!.24/01/2004
