WELL THANK GOODNESS SOMEONE IS LISTENING !!!!!!!! My partner spotted a saxo and thought one of these cars would not only be nice to look at but also pleasant to drive so he went ahead and bought one in Sep 2001from Arnold Crap in Armadale. Two days later we thought there had been an extra added to the car free of charge, a lovely textured pattern of blistered paint work. Like anyone would do we phoned them up and fair enough they said they would resolve the problem, three paint jobs after it still was a mess. Finally we had enough and asked for a replacement car after all we paid the money and they didn't come up with the goods they had PROMISED, well this was a NO NO from the dealer, my partner then phoned Citroen UK the staff were very helpful and said this would not be a problem and a new car would be issued all costs to AC. When we picked up the new car some other poor sole was collecting there new car and you'll never guess it had one with the lovely pattern on the paint work that we had OH IT WAS OUR OLD CAR! THE NEW REPLACEMENT HAS MOULDINGS RUBBING, LEAKS, BACK WINDOWS THAT DOESN'T STAY OPEN AND LOTS OF OTHER THINGS OH YES AND CHUGGING MAYBE THE POOR WEE THING PICKED UP A FEW BAD HABITS BEFORE IT LEFT THE GARAGE. My mother also bought a Picasso from the same garage but unfortunately she is to high to try and type you an E-mail due to her consuming fumes with the injectors leaking which she has complained about for the last 7 months and still isn't sorted. sorry to hear about everyone's problems with there second hand cars from ac but i purchased a brand new clio172 only to find on delivery that it had 2 dints, 1 stone chip,1 scratch,1
piece of grit painted into the door, 2 touchups on the door edge and a kerbed alloy wheel. ac says i am being picky and the faults are of no concern. so i spoke to
Renault UK who says i have to deal with the supplying dealer....yeah right i have a brand new car that looks 4 years old and i am supposed to get help from this garage. these defects were noted on the delivery sheet and reported to
Renault UK on the same day of delivery so as to prove that the faults were not done by me but
Arnold Clark dealer in Warrington who reckon a few marks and dints is acceptable on a new car and basically have said tuff live with the faults. £3000+ to get my brand new car
fixed.....erm....I'll be seeing you in court tosser.DROP DEAD!!.......in a painful way please. you have reduced a grown man to tears. :-(

I purchased a car on the 28th of
April 2003. I ordered a Vauxhall ASTRA 1.6 LS but received a 1.4LS and was not advised of any change i was tricked into initialing 1.4 on the credit
agreement and when i asked Arnold Clark for a part refund for the difference in the engine capacity they said their is no price difference. The car also suffered from numerous fault dents etc I was promised a 12 month mot but only received one with six months remaining. my key was broken and i was promised it would be replaced and i was sent to vauxhall dealer and was told by Arnold Clark they would be expecting me but they had no order for me when i arrived. I took the vehicle back under the 30day warranty for the steering, damaged windscreen, condensation in the headlamp and numerous other faults that were not repaired. Every time i call Arnold Clark i keep getting passed from person to person and no one wants to do anything about this. I suggest we contact the BBC television programme watchdog about all this I'm sure they would have a field day. I hope my comments help save someone else from buying a car from Arnold Clark and suffering in misery like i have. 10.8.2003 |

Bought a Toyota Avensis Estate from Arnold in Aberdeen. When I collected the car I had no floor mats which were promised, I was told that they only supply the paper ones "but I could purchase some if I wanted"!. Upon checking the car over the tyre pressure on the front tyres was 32psi on the drivers side and 51psi!!!! on the passenger side. When I took the car back for it's 20mile service I was told the cost would be roughly £90, when I went to collect it the bill was for £230 including the long face when I asked to use my 10% discount card. The car itself has been fine, but the service dept is a complete rip-off. I like others have mentioned wrote to the head office complaining about the steep cost of the service and got no reply, I also wrote to Toyota UK and again got nothing, this lot are a law into themselves. I agree with most of the mails on your site, one should be careful when purchasing anything from Arnold!!! 12.8.203 |

I bought a Citreon from Arnold Clark
and from the day I drove it I had various problems Leaking sun roof, apparently fixed on several occasions. Cracked air vents, apparently fixed as well, they left me driving around with a gaping hole in my car for weeks, because they had ordered the wrong part. So instead of putting the cracked one in to make it a wee bit more presentable they left it. loud screeching noise coming from car - took it back for the fourth time in 2 weeks and they took away, although I had to fight for them to pay for my insurance for courtesy car, car came back, all fixed, 2 days later it came back, so they took it away, sorry cannot fix it, had to choose another car. Sales man was no longer interested, left me to look around the cars, myself and was quiet abrupt with me, not impressed at all, he made it very clear he wasn't bothered, 'no commission'. Purchased a corsa, 2 years old. Problems arisen to: Gears packed in leaving me stranded in the middle of the road, Arnold Clark picked up the car and then lied and said nothing wrong with it, it wouldn't take a genius to work out that it needed completely re-newed. My opinion stay away from Arnold Clark, their cars are no where near standard, the sales men are horrible and are no use, never return your calls etc.13.8.2003 |

I was really displeased by the level of service I received from Arnold Clark. being only 19 at the time, I was so excited about buying my first car, so I went along to Hamilton Road, Glasgow branch and spotted my first car, I noticed that the air vents on the dash board had been cracked and I asked would they be fixed. "Oh yes, they will be fixed in time for you driving your car away" Picked up the car, and noticed that the air vents had not been fixed further more I realised that the sun roof was leaking, so I took the car back to Arnold Clark who took it back in to fix the car. A couple of days later the car came back with a gaping hole in the dash board and the sun roof not fixed. Then my car developed a rather loud screeching noise, so I drove it straight back up where the Arnold Clark Mechanics supposedly had a look and couldn't fix it. So they told me that they would take the car and I would still owe them £600 or choose another car, so that I did, with little or no help from the sales man who clearly wasn't interested anymore No commission see. I choose another car, drove it about a couple of days and the gears seized so they came and picked up my car and they supposedly fixed it, (yeah right) and it happened again, so I took the car straight back, by this time my temper is starting to flare and the car maintenance manager tried to deny that you could hear any noise coming from the gears, when clearly you could, even the shop manager admitted that there was a noise. They finally fixed the solution but I never fully felt confident with the car that their so called mechanics fixed, that I traded it in. 13.8.2003 |

Thanks for printing my experiences as a customer and an employee which I recently sent to you. I have now forwarded a link to your site to everyone in my e-mail address book. One thing though - a few of the customer comments given on your site refer to cars that have been bought and things have gone wrong - my best friend commented "So what... Things will always go wrong on a used car". YES, but a car from Arnold Clarks tend to be of poorer quality than many other used cars, hence more problems. ALSO, almost all of your contributors are not disputing that used cars will develop faults, they ARE commenting on the extremely poor service that they subsequently receive - AND THAT IS WHERE YOU WILL COME A CROPPER BUYING USED FROM ARNOLD CLARKS!!! My friends experience was that the exhaust on his Punto fell off (yes, literally) the day after he bought it - and even though the car was one day old, he still had to argue his case in order to get a new one. The dealership couldn't find his car's stereo, and when he took the car back a week later when 'they had found it', he discovered it was a stereo 5 yrs older than his car. He's also waiting on his free mats and petrol - the deal clincher that is 100% bull-s**t. 13.8.2003 |
