Inside Information
A vast number of cars on sale from this company are purchased from car auctions.
Only problem is when you purchase a car from most auctions you don't know any
history to the vehicle.

JUST BOUGHT A 2002 CLIO FROM ARNOLD CLARK [LOCHRIN PLACE, EDINBURGH] .AFTER ONE
DAY GOT A PUNCTURE HENCE TOOK CAR TO LOCAL GARAGE AND FOUND ONE TYRE ILLEGAL AND
OTHER ON THE BORDERLINE DUE TO TRACKING BEING OUT .
REPLACED TWO TYRES AND RESET TRACKING AT A COST OF £122
CONTACTED ARNOLD AND RETURNED TYRES FOR INSPECTION.
GARAGE REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE COST SAYING AS FAR AS WE ARE CONCERNED THE TYRES
AREN'T TO BAD AND THAT ANYWAY I'D PAID TOO MUCH [£40 PER TYRE].
WILL BE TAKING IT FURTHER AFTER PAYING £6000 FOR THE VEHICLE
ARNOLD CLARK REALLY DOES SUCK.....20.8.2003

agree with your site. bought an Almera from Arnold Clark, servicing very
expensive. they find other work that does not need doing. a BIG RIP OF FROM A
NATIONAL COMPANY.21.8.2003

Great Site. Things don't change. I just feel sorry for the few poor folk who are
trying to do an honest day's work and have to work there. The place needs a
shake up - or shut down!
I bought a Maestro from AC in Glasgow 1985 from AC's son as a salesman. I asked
for rear seat belts to be fitted (to protect my young children). When I got the
car the belts were bodged. They had cobbled a set together with one fixing point
bolt cover that was paint sprayed to match the rest of the set (Not surprisingly
it was not quite a good enough job - the wrong shade!) and this cover also
caught the belt, stopping it retracting properly. But it was supposed to be
good enough to charge me the full price for a new factory set. Fortunately I
hadn't paid for it. So I told Mr AC's son he would get paid when I got what I
asked for. Still waiting. I've had 3 cars since then and wouldn't go near AC
for anything.  21.8.2003

just a quick note,
it does not matter how much we complain about Mr Clark
it is up to us to check the car we are proposing to buy
whether it is from him or privately personally you are as
well buying private for these reasons1/you will pay top
retail price for the car if buying from a garage 2/a Clark
will not spend a penny on a car unless he has to or we draw
his attention to a particular problem 3/a warranty sometimes
is not worth the paper it is written on and you pay 200 or
300 pounds for the privilege of having one4/i visited a lot
of a Clark sites and found that most of their cars had bumps
and dents [city cars] also the cats were on there last
legs 5/also remember that a garage will promise the world
meaning they will do this to the car or that to the car but
as a lot of people have found out once they have your money
they don't give a hoot
well i hope that has been of some help to you as i have been a victim of a Clark
i now run about in an old L reg polo coupe no problems and
only cost 400 pounds great
ps Arnold also buys from car auctions puts his 1500 or 2000
pounds on spends nothing on it and you get all the problems
and the big price tag better you buy at auctions and save
big heap of dosh ok thats it by by .21.8.2003

Arnold Clark shunted my motor which i bought from him!!!!!
He managed to reverse into my parked car, fob me off with a dumb excuse, and
drive off!!!!21.8.2003

When returning from abroad, my wife purchased a used Fiat Punto (£4000.000). I
was present (before returning abroad alone) The salesman recommended 'Autocare
Insurance@ @£400.00 for two years cover. So we purchased it.
Just as well. A week later with me abroad the problems began.
Note: The salesman promised a full service, and MOT before we took delivery. BUT
NOTHING was done. I had marked the oil filter and when I returned from abroad a
few weeks later, noted that it had not been changed, and of course nor the oil.
1. First week with my wife and children alone car failed upon the road,
restarted and limped home, next day, would not start, collected by AC from house.
fuel problems. 2 days without car.
2. Despite the car being issued with new MOT upon purchase, the brakes were
binding, and pulling to one side it needed a new disc and pads. We also asked for
the rear tyre to be repaired of a slow puncture, an item noted at purchase.
3. Gearbox bearing failure, complete re-build.
4. Head gasket failure.
Item 2. cost/paid extra £30+ insurance cover for 'courtesy' car.
Items 3-4. Now wise to the fact, was able to cover courtesy car insurance
through our existing (Arnold Clark) insurance for the Punto. But this option was
not advised by AC the first time item 1.
After 18 months of use, we decided to purchase a new car and trade in the Punto.
We asked for the remaining 6 months (25%) Arnold Clark Autocare insurance refund
approx £100.00. Received letter stating that as we had used the insurance and so
much was spent upon the car, they felt we did not deserve a refund!
I have the letters written to them.21.8.2003

I am actually an Arnold Clark employee and to be quite honest I see the continual
cock ups and general lack of organisation on a daily basis. My entire day
comprises of trying to remove the cowboys spurs from my fellow employees boots.
To be brutally honest the company is a joke run by a senile old man who
every time i see him (approx once every two weeks) he asks me the same questions
'And how long have you worked here & what is it that you do?'. Its get pretty
monotonous after working with the organisation for 6 years !!
All departments have a general lack of procedure where is be sales, insurance,
hire drive, provided profits and targets are being met Messer's Hawthorne, Clark
and Willis don't care.22.8.2003
