I bought a Volvo V70 from Arnie. He said it had just had an MOT and full service. One week later, the steering did not feel right. I took it to another Volvo garage and it needed £600 of repairs including new brakes, steering arms and a full oil change. I have told all my friends, workmates and people in the pub and cafe about my experience with Arnie to make sure they can decide for themselves. 16.9.2003 |

I have to agree with everyone, Arnies are assholes. I spent £5500 on a Vauxhall Astra all the service books and information was with the car except the car pass. This contains important information about the radio code and key fob codes etc I phoned them three times only to be jerked around. They were not interested in getting this info for me, they had their money and didn't give a shit about after sales service. 18.9.2003 |

I have a lo-o-o-ong letter outlining the probs. would you like to see it? Regarding a ABS system fault on a T reg. Daewoo Nubera- ok maybe not too cool a car but thought it worked until AC got there greasy mits on it! 18.9.2003 |

we had just moved to Scotland when our Citroen zara est needed a service wish I had read this site before going to AC at paisley as soon as we walk through the door this person was more interested in selling us some sort of engine flush rather than take the details of the service when I said no thanks he lost interest and just said, car will be ready in a few hrs we then had a phone call saying we needed 2 new tyres and tracking was out when I asked them had they done the tracking I was told they could not do this as I needed 2 new tyres. I told them that i did not think I needed the tyres this is not what they wanted to hear I then went back to AC to see if my car was ready. I was told only a test drive to go. yes the test drive was from the workshop to the car park about 60ft the tyres I have just replaced 20,000 miles later 18.9.2003 |

Having worked for Arnold Clark in the past, and still having contact with people there, I would prefer to remain anon. I suspect many people will be surprised to discover that there lovely newish motor probably started life (one owner, full service history, etc etc started life in with Arnold Clark Hire Drive. You can usually spot them if you know what to look for. Firstly, if you tell the salesman you are interested in a particular car (usually something run of the mill spec wise) but want a different colour. Chances are he'll go away and look up the Hire Drive sales list (cars that have paid there way and can move to sales) and find you one there and then. Other signs: If the car has a yellow triangle sticker on the window (immobiliser / tracking device fitted or some guff - as if you would fit a tracker to a Daewoo Matiz!) 99.9% its been part of Hire Drive fleet. Also a rectangular white sticker with alarm fitted and Arnold Clark 0141 number is also signs of Hire Drive. Not that there is anything wrong in buying from a rental car, if its cheap enough. Oh no its Arnold Clark we are dealing with, nothing cheap on a clarkies forecourt. Buyer Beware 19.9.2003 |

Hi, good site. I bought a Golf in October last year from the Crow Road branch, received it with only one key, was told they would call the previous owner for the spare and they would post it to me. Waited several weeks then phoned to chase it, was told they would chase the previous owner and to call them back in a couple of days. Called back, was told the car only left the factory with one key I don't believe that for a moment), they might be able to get a spare cut for me and to call them back in a couple of days. Called them back, sales guy told me he only dealt with these queries before 5.30pm and to call back tomorrow. Came off the phone and realised it was only 5.10 but called back next day. Was told they would cut a new key but I had to come in on a weekday during business hours, explained this was not possible as I work Mon - Fri 9-5. Answer was call them back and they would see what they could do. Called back yet again, was told they would allow me to come in at the ! weekend, and to call them back another time to arrange an appointment. By this point I gave up and I've still only got one key for my car. They also told us they were giving us a 12 month MOT, discovered when we got it it was actually 11 months. Terrible after care, once they get the sale and your signature on the finance document they don't want to know. I felt that writing to them would be a waste of time so thanks for the chance to let people know how awful these people are. 19.9.2003 |

I bought a new Fiesta in 1999 from Arnold Clark in Aberdeen. Got a pretty good deal on it, about a grand off list price. First year passed by without much of a hitch, as did the second. Only when I went in to get it serviced in the third year did they start to screw me over! In the August I put it in for its service, came back with a £500 bill. OK I thought it hasn't cost me much so far took it back for it's first MOT the next month, expecting it to be clean, another £500, what the hell was the service for? Never been back, never will be back and everyone I know has been told the story. 19.9.2003 |

We bought a Daewoo from Arnold Clarks in Bearsden Glasgow in October 2002. The car was registered to Clarks since new (July 2002) it had 26 miles on the clock. I was informed by the salesman, a Mr Ryan, that the car came with the full Daewoo package, three years warranty, three years AA membership and three years free servicing. I registered the car with the Arnold Clark Daewoo dealership and was told that the first service would be 10000 miles or at 1 year. I phoned recently to arrange this service, to be informed that I do not qualify for the free servicing as I was not the first registered keeper of the vehicle? The pain is, to fulfill my obligation for the other parts of the warranty I have to get the car serviced at a Daewoo dealers, and guess who HAS to get my business... Mr Clark Esq. Rip Off or what? It would appear that if people buy cars that are registered to the dealer, even if the car has not been on the road, then large parts of the warranty are removed as the new owner is not the FIRST registered keeper BE CAREFUL19.9.2003 |

Great site! I wish everyone knew about it before they even considered buying a car from them. I bought a used Daewoo Matiz about 18 months ago from Trades Lane Dundee, it's an ex hire car, so fairly high mileage for a car of it's age, and a few stone chips on it. Wasn't really worried about the mileage but the stone chips concerned me. "No Problem" said the nice salesman on my first visit, "we'll have them all touched up". When I complained that they weren't when I picked it up, the same nice salesman's reply was "What do you expect, it's a used car"! The car was in the garage 8 times in the first year, Arnold never has the parts in stock, so you always have to wait for them. I needed my rear windscreen replaced as the heated bit was broke - they ordered me a front windscreen, and didn't tell me until I went to pick it up, that the work hadn't been done. I've also had to pay to repair things that they damaged during their repairs! I wrote a letter of complaint to their "Customer Service department" over 5 months ago - have I got a reply? What do you think?! 19.9.2003 |

went to A C in Kirkcaldy for a service for my 740
Volvo some years back and the result was they informed me that I had oil leaks on engine crankshaft gearbox and rear axel, I had done 1300
miles over the recommended service as I was touring with my caravan and had never had to top up any oils, then I broke down and when I had the car removed to another Volvo main agent it required a new fuel pump as A C had not taken the bother to replace a 25pence filter in the fuel line which I was charged for on four previous
services, so I will never deal with A C again, keep up the good work I only discovered your site as my Granddaughter has bought a new Fiat
Punto from AC, Tom, 19.9.2003

My partner and myself went to Arnold Clark in Stoke on Trent. We needed a new car quickly as my partners car had just been written off in a smash. We went to AC as the ad in the local paper promised £99 deposit and 0% finance over 4 years. Great. We found a nice Vauxhall Corsa and the terms were worked out for us. It was late on Friday evening, the sales assistant wanted to go to the pub and we agreed we would return to view and drive the car the next day and finalise the deal. The next day we telephoned to make the arrangements and the sales assistant told me that he would have to check with his manager on the 0% finance. He informed me that the 0% option was not valid on that car (even though the previous evening he assured us that it was)! The apr was now 4% (still low but not good enough) he even had the cheek to say that if we had purchased the car last night (as he was itching to go the pub) the 0% would be valid. We spoke to the manager, no joy but a reduction to 2% apr. We asked about his ad in the local paper which said (many, many models at 0% finance) and we were informed that this applied to 1 car only !!!! We also asked how his sales assistant could promise a deal and then not honor it ? He said the offer was now over except on the 1 car and that they would not be unprofessional to suggest that the deal would of been ok if it was completed last night !?!? (That speaks for itself). Well I have read some other articles in the website and I must say the Corsa is 8 months old with 11K miles. I wonder who was the original owner ?? Good bye Arnold. 20.9.2003 |
