all i would like to say is that all the garages are under pressure to sell as many cars or units as they can per month so the customer care is non existent in a lot of big dealerships like a/c they are sending cars out patched up to last for a little while whereas if they looked after their customers they would come back. let me give you an example a friend of mine bought a Peugeot 106 1100 petrol brand new last year 2002 from Arnold's all seemed ok but when he got it home and into the garage he was about to switch the light's of and shut the garage door when he noticed a slight colour difference at the back quarter of the car he took it back to Arnold's next morning and pointed it out to the salesman he said it was the type of paint it was pearliest he said every panel depending on which way the light hit it would look a slightly different shade i said ok and left it at that as luck would have it i bumped into an old friend of mine we got chatting i asked him what he was doing he said he was in a paint shop body shop repairing ! cars for Arnold Clark well time was getting on and i had to go home i asked if he wanted a lift he said ok i approached my car and was about to get in when he said i recognise this car we had it in two weeks ago it had been damaged on a transporter rear quarter a chain had come loose on the transporter and was hitting the car i said i thought the paint was a slightly different shade so i went back to Arnold Clark and told him what i was told he asked me who told me of course i did not i asked for my money back and or a new car as he had sold me damaged goods and not disclosed the car had been damaged as he knew i meant what i was saying so i got a new car and so far ok but i won't be going back to a/c never if they can get away with anything they will well thats all oh by the way it was the Armadale branch of Arnies i bought the car 6.10.2003 |

My car has been serviced by Arnold Clark since I bought it new 18 months ago, the cam belt snapped at 5000 miles and Arnold Clark replaced the engine, since then due to their incompetence (proven by an independent vehicle inspector!) the car has had 2 further replacement engines and 3 gearboxes!! Each time the service manager (Steve XXX) has tried to blame it on my driving skills, which I know is untrue and my sister works at a BMW dealer who have also looked at the car and said the faults have not been caused at all by my driving!! Arnold Clark really sucks 7.10.2003 |

Hi - I've just come across your site and am now extremely worried. I bought a 52 plate Punto from Arnold Clarke in Edinburgh 5 weeks ago and after just over a week it developed a problem with the clutch. I asked for a refund on the car, they refused and said they could repair it, which i let them do. However, 3 weeks later, the same fault has come back. Do u think i have a leg to stand on as far as getting a refund goes? Having read the entries on your site i am extremely upset and worried. 12.10.2003 |

I ordered a new 53 plate black Renault Clio dynamique 1.2 16 v 3 dr car before I went on holiday. I signed all of the finance agreement stuff on the Friday 26 September with a deal of 0% Finance over 3 years (which was the main reason I decided to go ahead and get a new car). When I came back from my holiday, on the night I was to pick the vehicle up, I had been posted out the vehicle registration documentation which stated I had ordered a new 53 plate CYCLONE BLUE Renault Clio dynamique 1.2 16 v 3 dr car. You can imagine my upset at this! I contacted Arnold Clark (Bishopbriggs) and sure enough, they had ordered the wrong colour of car. To make matters worse, when I got into this with the Sales Manager, apparently the salesman that I had had the misfortune to deal with completely and utterly lied saying that I had indeed ordered the car in blue! Which was a complete and utter lie as I had a witness with me (and in a court of law a verbal agreement in Scotland is as good as a written contract) when I ordered the car not to mention that fact that I think I should know what car I ordered! After a lot of words, I was informed that I would be unable to get the same finance agreement as the deal had now ran out, and if I still wanted the car, I would have to pay and additional £21 per month! Despite getting legal advice from a lawyer and trading standards and presenting this to them over the phone, they are still unwilling to budge and accept any responsibility with what has happened. I am currently writing to Arnold and William Clark to explain the situation with the hope that I legally should get the car that I ordered! Other than that, they will never get any further business from me or any members of my family ever ever again. 13.10.2003 |

Renault Owners Beware - I have been a big fan of your site for some time now and have read the advice given here and sworn never to go near the place. However AC have just bought the Renault Garage on Seafield Road and if you own a Renault and want it serviced you've got no choice but to give Arnold your cash. After several diagnostics they've still not determined what the problem is and now my brake squeaks! I'm reluctant to take it back there after the last few visits but most independent garages say that without the right laptop full of Renault software there is nothing they can do. <p> Aside to this I paid well over the odds for my car which is full of problems and despite a garage having pretty signed and adverts on the TV and radio, they're just the same as any other dealer. They buy em in cheap, Hoover and polish them, add a grand or two, and wait for the suckers. I was always rather reluctant to buy a car from a newspaper or the Auto Trader but given you can have just as bad luck buying a car from the dealer as you can on the street, its a chance I would much rather take. Given that I'm going to have to spend almost a grand getting my car up to scratch I would have been better buying one privately for a grand less then at worst spending the difference on repairs! They're there to make money and don't let their smarmy media let you be persuaded otherwise.14.10.2003 |

i bought a v reg rover 45 on 20th Jan 2003 for 4999 and i went to renew finance to buy a 53 reg astra,, i was told my settlement would be 4.700 despite paying 1500 already. they have offered me 3000 for the rover as a trade in. that means i have paid 1500 and to exchange for a new car i basically have a minus figure of 1700 to pay on top of the price of the astra.. can anyone explain this or is it just another Arnold bit of sales crap to obtain my hard earned cash. rip off ..... 16.10.2003 |
