Citroen Xsara Picasso - Reg: X828 NEN The above vehicle was ‘serviced’ at Arnold Clark Aigburth on the 3rd November 2003. My wife left the vehicle at the garage and made use of a courtesy car. During the course of the afternoon, my wife received a telephone call, advising her that the front brake pads required replacement. The brake pads were renewed during the previous service which was carried out on 23rd October 2002, and accordingly my wife raised this point with yourselves, but was simply answered; ‘you can’t legislate for the way people drive’. My wife agreed to have the brake pads renewed, not knowing at the time how many miles the car had travelled since the previous service. We were astonished to receive an invoice totaling £383.54 in respect of a 37,500 mile service, an MOT and the renewal of the front brake pads. I am also very surprised to note that 4 x spark plugs cost £29.48 ex VAT. Upon collecting the vehicle and returning home, we noted that the brake pads had been in place for only 9481 miles. We also noted that the service record shows that the front brake pad wear was 25% to 75%, whilst the invoice states ‘Brake pads have approximately 25% left’. As noted above, my wife was advised that the front brake pads required replacement, which is clearly not the case. The vehicle is driven with absolute care, with our two children as passengers on most occasions that the vehicle is driven. Accordingly, the speed is maintained at a safe speed and approaches to junctions and bends are carried out without any ‘over exuberant’ braking such that the brake pads wear excessively. Additionally, my wife and I have absolutely perfect licenses, without any speeding or similar penalties on our licenses. I am a consulting engineer, and I do not for one minute believe that brake pads can wear at such rates, unless the pads were sub-standard at the outset. If that is the case then Arnold Clark must be held responsible for supplying a sub-standard product. Under the circumstances I am wholly incensed that you have suggested that the brake pads required replacement and I believe you have taken advantage of the fact that a female delivered the car for the service. I therefore expect a refund in full, and unless I am totally satisfied I shall refuse to deal with any Arnold Clark establishment again. We have recently been test driving a Nissan Xtrail at Nissan Sefton St, as I am planning to change my BMW 5 series. However, I will not do business with any branch of Arnold Clark unless this matter is resolved, and accordingly I will purchase the vehicle from an alternative source. I will also endeavor to pursue this matter further if necessary. 6.11.2003 |

Today I feel like the luckiest guy on Earth because I've just accepted an offer of employment that gets me away from Arnold Clark. In the 3 1/2 years I've been with the company I've personally witnessed heaps of junk being put on the road to unsuspecting customers, service records being falsified, MOT's I've witnessed bullying of staff by senior management, staff members being accused of things they haven't done because the boss is sleeping with one of the service reception staff and one poor sod being fired to cover up for the failings of a service manager and the staff he appointed. Thinking of buying a used car? DON'T!! Do yourself a favour... JUST DON'T. We don't do anything to them before or after selling them. If you're lucky we change the oil.. but only if you're very lucky. Once you leave the forecourt it's your problem. If you knew what heaps of crap we put on the roads you'd be amazed.... your wife and kids could be in one of them. In case you all think this is sour grapes believe me it isn't. I just realised that I've been working for a two-bit ramshackle company and I've had enough. DO YOURSELVES A FAVOUR... AVOID ARNIE LIKE THE EBOLA VIRUS 7.11.2003 |

my mate buys a Vectra from Arnold and 6 month down the line decides he wants to put it into Helensburgh branch for it's service. To put you in the picture the car was 1996 (salesman said it was a 1997 when he sold it) Serviced since new by the Arnold Clark empire. He gets a phone call to tell him the sump plug is cross threaded and he needs a new sump. He explains that the Car has only ever been serviced by Arnold but they still hit him for £180 for a new sump. And worse still he paid it 8.11.2003 |

we own a Volvo v40, it went in to the Stirling branch for a service. At lunch time the (lack of) service manager telephoned saying that one of the rear tyres had a nail in the "shoulder"& that they would just replace it @ a cost of £120! I refused 12 months on, I still have the tyre on my car & the nail has never been found? In the same call we were told that a gator had gone on the gear box linkage, which cost a mere £45 + VAT to fix and the car would go in to 1st gear like it should, refused again, the car has been to an other Volvo dealer since and still hasn't had the work done.9.11.2003 |

i was an employee with a/c and it is true the customer comes last, in my view they take on too much and cant handle the pressure, I now work for an independent body shop owned by a major worldwide insurance company, and the gaffer refuses to use Arnold Clark for any parts purchases at all because they totally suck 11.11.2003 |

I purchased a 02 Xsara from AC Nissan at Seafield in Edinburgh. I had a lot of extra work done to the vehicle i.e. new stereo, silverseal paint protection, mud flaps, carpet mats, rear spoiler etc. When I collected the vehicle it was damaged. They assured me that the dent would be repaired. In due course the vehicle was collected and repaired, but when I got the vehicle back it was in a worse state than it was when it went away. I complained and they then gave me a replacement vehicle to run around in. 3 weeks later the vehicle was delivered to me in such a state that I complained to Arnold himself and refused to accept the vehicle. They tried to replace the vehicle but could not find the same model or spec. In the end they gave me my money back. The wife was not happy as this car was a Valentines Present and a lot of effort on my part and other parties had gone into it. DO NOT LET ARNOLD REPAIR YOUR CAR 11.11.2003 |

Dear Mr Sucks My wife bought a car from Arnold Clark last January, she has had various problems with the car which under warranty have been rectified. She recently had her car serviced and there were various jobs which were meant to be carried out which were not, if i had not checked the car they may well have went un-noticed. To make things worse 2 CD were removed from the car (stolen?), when she phoned to complain, the manager was very condescending. She has now taken this issue up with customer service and is awaiting a reply. Without going into detail i also bought a car from Arnold Clark (£23000) worth and have had some hassle also. Anyway keep up the good work 12.11.2003 |
