Let me tell you a little story I bought a brand new Golf back in 2002, loved it and still do…….. Had some problems with it, was told by Arnold Clark that it was fixed ( it was a water leak and non start….the immobiliser kept kicking in when I went to star the car) What the hell 3 weeks later I had the same problem…took it back was told the same thing It Now3 Fixed…sorry about the bother. This has been going on for the past 2.5 years, every time the there seams to be a new solution to the problem my car has been fixed so many time that the pretty looking girls at the desk now know my number…Reg plate of by hart… I have talked to the manager and reported these problems to VW care…. after which the manager suddenly started to take his ginger out his ASS, it not out all the way but it getting there… It turns out that the Tech’s have no clue in to how to fix the problem and have had to send it to some other company….but I am not supposed to know this….. You may ask how I know this…. well my mate works at this other garage…. When asked they replied we do this when we have to much work… (That’s cause they don’t know how to fix the job the first time). BULL I know that its cause they ain't got a clue. I am have just been told that Arnold Clark are under review by VW as a dealer…this coming from one of the VW call centre people… ????? I am now going to report this problem to watch dog and the trading standards to see what they say… BUG HINT DON’T BE CONNED BY THE PRICE >>> 29.1.2004 |

I made the
stupid mistake 2 years ago of buying an R-plate Ford Ka for my wife from
McHarg's off the Expressway in Glasgow. The car was advertised as having
low mileage, one owner, but actually had 49,000 on the clock. The V5
wasn't available at the time, but when it eventually arrived (3 months
later, and after having chased both AC and the DVLA numerous times), I
was the third owner. Needless to say, the morons in Sales had by now
washed their hands of it, and told me that the salesman I had dealt with
"was no longer with the company"
Despite
assurances that the car had a "full service history", this
could not be found at the time of sale. I was assured this was be found
and sent on, as the car had been sourced from their Dundee dealership.
The logbook & service record duly arrived, stamped up by both the
Dundee and Glasgow dealerships. It was only when I looked a bit closer,
that I noticed the service record had been signed by the same person for
both locations! The documents from Ford also had a printing date on them
- October 2001, 3 years after the car was first registered. These people
must think we are as stupid as they are.
I bought
the car in winter, so although I saw it under bright lights, it was only
when I looked at it in daylight at the weekend that I noticed the
driver's door and front wing were a different shade of silver from the
rest of the car. On closer inspection, there appeared to have been a
major accident, with the sills having been welded, and extensive
respraying inside the engine bay. I had the car checked by the AA, who
agreed that while the car wasn't actually dangerous, it had been
extensively repaired & welded at some time in the last year or so.
None of this was mentioned at the time of purchase. In the meantime, the
door lock on the drivers door has fallen out, the electric window has
failed, and I have found that the entire drivers door panel on the
inside has been glued back on with something resembling roofing sealant
- the kind that doesn't set.
I have of
course complained noisily and publicly to AC, but the tragedy is that
after the (useless) initial warranty has expired, you don't have a leg
to stand on. "Caveat emptor" indeed.
I just
think its tragic that so many people (like me) who can't afford a Beemer
or a Merc have to deal with the monopoly that belongs to these soulless
sharks.

price and told "I wouldn't drive it the way it is"!!!! aaahhh
but it only past it's M.O.T. 2days prior. took it back to my mechanic to
be told there is not any crack in your belt and I've cleaned your back
brakes.£5 please!!!! he asked who carried out the service? I replied Arnold
Clark, he said **** sake never even used genuine parts! he could have done
my service all in for £40. I would not advise anyone to go to ARNOLD

I bought a Renault Megane from Arnold Clark, London Road,
Glasgow at the end of Dec 2003. My troubles began before I even
purchased the car when the
salesman tried to sell me the car without an
M.O.T. certificate because it was less than 3 years old and did not need
one till April 2004 which would then be my
responsibility after owning the car for only 3
months! When I told him I expected a full years M.O.T. since I was
paying him over £5,000 he tried to sell me an
extended warranty for over £200 which he said
included your first M.O.T. free of charge turns out this was just an
M.O.T. test). I purchased the car
after he agreed to M.O.T. it. The car did
not run properly on the day I picked it up and was miss-firing. It
went back in the following day and I was told that
sometimes water gets into the plugs when they
steam clean the engine and causes this fault??? After a quick
inspection I was told they would book it in for a
proper inspection in a few days time and asked me
to persevere with it till then. That night it cut out completely
and I had to push it around the corner to my
house. AC took it in again the next day and
sent it off to the Renault dealer in Pollokshaws Road as it had a three
month manufacturers warranty left on it.
A few days later I got it back and I was told they
had replaced an ignition coil. It is now back with AC as I write this three
weeks later) with the same fault.
I dropped it off on Saturday. I called back
on Tuesday to be told by the service manager at London Road they
had again sent it to Pollokshaws Road for
inspection. I phoned Pollokshaws Road today
for an update to be told they had never received the car surprise!
surprise!-by now I'm really pissed off). London
Road tell me there was a mix up and they will get
it to Pollokshaws Road today.
If this is what I have to put up with in the first
month, I dread to think what lies ahead. I will keep you informed.

during the 41-point service,
completely managed to fail to spot that both front tyres were illegal due
to wear. the reason I hadn't spotted it is that it was on both
internal rims. up on the ramp, HOW COULD YOU FAIL TO SPOT IT???!
also failed to spot that the back box of the exhaust would wear out in
(literally) 3 hours. I'm off to see them on Saturday...might just report
back! 4.2.2004

email sent to Arnold Clark tonight:
"My wife and I bought a car from you a
few weeks ago & we still have not got the spare key despite several
phone calls and visits to your Leyland store. Our messages are not
returned and we are on the verge of taking matters further. It seems as
though now that you have sold us the car, you are not bothered. Alex was
the rep who sold us the car."
