I bought a new 307 from AC in Inverness in Nov 01 After 3000 miles the clutch packed in , replaced by another franchised dealer in Aberdeen as AC Inverness could not believe it. Shortly after this, say 5500 miles the gearbox started whining, argued the toss with AC and they later agreed the gearbox required replacement. (Aberdeen dealer again) I was peed off by this time and tried to reject the car………got bum’s rush about warrantee etc. and the general runabout Anyway, by 7000 miles the GB started to whine again, I got really peed off by this time and punted the car in a PX for a new MG, kept the car 6 months, 6 weeks of which were in the garage having repairs. Other faults on that particular car………brake fade, passengers door opened on it’s own (no warning light) , ticking noise from top side of engine. All the stereo system speakers rattled and buzzed.
This was the so called “car of the year”…….bucket of the year, supplied by an approved A-hole of a dealer in AC of Inverness Keep up the good work, Name & Shame the money grabbing, useless service, pass the buck Arnold Clark 9.202004 |

Wished I seen this site before...wouldn't have bought a
car from the infamous Arnold Clark!. Forked out £10,000 for a Peugeot
307....6 months later the problems start. they find metal in the fuel
line...3 months later we get our car back - promised it would only be
two weeks......6months later there's a problem with the fuel line...are
you sensing a pattern? Promised delivered ...not bloody likely. I will
never buy a Peugeot or buy from Arnold Clark again.

Oh yes! Read the mechanics comments on page one - the
41pt service. Well I work in a warehouse adjacent to an Arnold Clark
site in Edinburgh and I can honestly see that I have never seen a bigger
bunch of w*****s in my life. The treatment meted out to new and
customers cars by their mechanics is a scandal, wheel spins, handbrake
turns, up to 50 in 1st and even bouncing them over kerbs and a
particularly nasty grassy knoll. They cause nothing but f*****g bother
to their neighbours with their total f*****g arrogance. Buy a car from
Arnold? You must be off your head!

First of all what a great site providing real information
about one of the biggest car dealerships in Scotland. This is exactly
what consumers need, background info on how they will be treated after
sales and what will be done to remedy faults.
Mine isn't as serious as many of them on your site but
more of an annoyance. It starts along the lines of creating work where
there is none. The tracking was out on my Vauxhall Corsa and after
having taken it to three garages I decided to take it to Vauxhall Dundee
(Arnold Clark owned) and get an Optiflex to straighten out any problems.
upon booking it in to get this done I was quoted around 75-85 quid
(don't know exact figure) and I thought great, I can afford that. After
a couple of hours I phoned back to see if it was ready and the lady on
the phone said it was and spouted a long screed of work that had been
done on the car on top of the Optiflex, wheels switched round (back to
front, seems to be a common thing to do if they are bored) and some other
stuff and this brought the total up to 120-130 (again don't know the
figure). I had asked why this work had been carried out if I had not
asked for it and they had my number so they could've phoned to authorise
it and she replied that the engineers did it because it was needing
done. After 10 minutes of trying to explain to the woman that work
should never have been carried out on my car without my authorisation
she finally agreed to scrub the other work done on the car and charge me
for the original quote (how kind of her). The best bit is that they
swapped the tyres round and I was using two different widths of tyre
originally 145's on the front and 165's on the back but when it returned
from Arnold Clark it had the thicker on the front and the thinner on the
back. I don't know if that was right but I tell you this I wrote the car
off about a month later going round a corner and hit a lamp post head on
and I still say that is was because the backend of the car had less grip
on the road than the front because of the tyre widths.

They sold me a 98 vectra 8 months ago that had 50000
miles on the clock. Despite being inspected to network q
standards, being the Vauxhall dealership at linwood, they ignored the
fact that the car was 10000 miles past its cam belt change, didn't tell
me it was overdue (Service book says 80000 miles but Vauxhall changed
this to 40000 in 2002) and what happens - cam belt snapped at 64000
miles. Also the engine management lightbulb had been removed from
the dash. These cars are inspected? I don't think so.
Arnold Clark service desk reckons its nothing to do with them, even
though they sold me a car that they knew needed service work carrying
out!
Cowboys, and I'm gunning for em now.

I bought a Vauxhall from Arnolds Greenock branch a few
years ago. The car
stereo was not working and I was told they would have
it sorted by the
time I was to collect the car. Upon collection... no stereo, I
was told it
had been sent away to be repaired and they would
contact me when it
returned. In the mean time engine warning light appears. Car
goes back to
garage and gets fixed, light disappears for 2 days then
comes back on. Car
is in and out of garage 6 times within the first month
of my ownership
and they give me different reasons each time. One time
car comes out and
the warning light stayed off for a whole week but the
cars engine kept
cutting out. Car went back in and had the cutting out
problem fixed, then
collected the car and drove from Arnolds courtyard all
of 30 feet to the
main road and the warning light appears again. The
words raging and
bloody spring to mind. Personally I think they were
waiting for the
months warranty to expire then hit me with a major fault, so
that I would
have to pay for the repairs myself. I never went back
with the car but
tried other garages in all ive spent about £750 over 4
years on this
problem. What about the stereo I hear you all shout. Well
I got a call to
take the car in to get a new stereo fitted because the
old one was
beyond repair. So car goes in and gets a brand new(
right out the poke)
stereo fitted. So I was over the moon at my new music system. On
collection I tried out this new stereo and found out
that the radio
wasn't working. Went to complain and was told that the
model fitted was
not compatible with my electric aerial. (i.e. the
aerial would not go up so
I couldn't get a signal) and that they wanted me to go
away and come back
later in the week and they would replace my electric
aerial with a
manual ( pull up) one. I told him to forget that as the
electric aerial
was part of the car spec and they would have to go and
get a stereo that
would work an electric areial.3 weeks later I was
fitted with a old
shabby looking stereo out of a trade in.Ive still got
that dam light in
my face every day reminding me not to buy Arnold Clark
again......Years
before all this happened I had my previous car in Arnolds
vw branch in
Greenock for a service. The following day after service
my car was
misfiring so I checked under the bonnet and discovered
that an ht lead
had been snapped off at the spark plug end and stuffed
back into the
connector. Obviously done when changing the spark plugs
and 2 days after
that I was under my car fixing something and noticed
that the oil filter
had not been changed either......HONESTLY YOU COULD NOT
MAKE THIS
UP......!!!!!!

Hi I
just bought a new Nissan Navara pick up truck from yours truly, I traded
in a Mitsubishi L200.at Seafield Edinburgh, sales man James Clemson, he used
to serve pizzas in the restaurant at Richards Restaurant it yours to be
just before the round about at Landrover.
We agreed a trade in price £9250.00p the week the car was not delivered I phoned, A we have a wee problem, so I went in to see the salesman remember I paid £600.dep and signed on the dotted line, they want to charge me an extra £350. or refund my deposit less £80. charge to send back a top I ordered to go on the back of the pickup, it seems when the salesman looked up my Mitsubishi (which had a private plate ) it was an 01.Y.reg just before they delivered it seems it came back as an 00 reg X. I don't know how as the reg document had 01.Anyway I try to deal with them and get the extra charge down to £200.( I must be mad I'm, no push over) I then went to a solicitor he told me he can get my extra money back but it will cost £200.+ to do so. I even meet Arnold he said good after noon everything ok" NO I said and went into my story he laughed and said is there camera's about is this for t.v.I told him this was worse than a divorce by now I was ill with this, so I told him I WILL NEVER BUY OR SERVICE A CAR WITH ARNOLD AGAIN he thought it was funny, you think a Mr. Arnold Clark himself he will sort this NOT A HOPE. People may see my pickup MAC-852P Blue and think nice It is not worth the trouble. GREAT SITE I SAW IT TO LATE. 12.2.2004 |

I was only 18 when I bought my rover 25 from
Arnold Clark garage machargs in partick.I had saved up for years for my
car and I was browsing the showroom when I saw it, a dark blue 1.4
sporty 25 and I really wanted it. The sales man I got was CHRIS GARDNER
who lied to me firstly that my insurance was only going to be around 800
pound. Which of course it never turned out to be (it ended up 1,635 pound). But
I still paid it. It took me 2 months to get behind the wheel of it while
because Chris "forgot" about the car. surprise surprise! The
following are a list of things that have went wrong since I got the car
and machargs refuse to take the car back or notice that the faults are
their fault!
Front seatbelts both broke when I had to do
an emergency stop.
Power steering went and it took them 4 trips
to the garage to sort it.
leaky sunroof and doors.
blown engine at only 18k (not their fault
even though the car came without guards.
seats refuse to recline to let in passengers
when I first got the car there was no oil or
water cap fitted
no power steering fluid after the pump had
been changed by them.
brakes constantly rubbing.
it blows bulbs every week.
and all these probs have left me with a
hefty mileage as the car is in the garage every month and my leather
seats are ruined due to the leaking of the car!
