Had just logged in to consider Arnold for a Vauxhall Zafira
(My only irritation to date being his radio adverts) - but you have probably
just saved me from future problems as I will not be using Arnold. Is
it worth widening the net, as I spent last Saturday observing many sharp
practices
in a row - but this time at another large garage - namely Reg Vardy (Including trying to persuade a wee wifie that she really wanted a Fiat Punto - not the Corsa she thought she wanted; Lying several times to us (saying that the car we wanted wasn't on interest free (it was; Denying offering us a particular deal; The sales girl having to "consult" with her manager for every question. We had gone in with the intention of buying one of the 2 cars we were test driving - and all they did was talk themselves out of a sale. 13.2.2004 |

I bought a Volkswagen Passat from Arnold Clark. After a
week I noticed oil in the coolant reservoir, when I took the car to Arnold's
they said the last owner must have (accidentally poured oil into the
reservoir by mistake) they then flushed out the coolant system & said
everything was fine. After about another week I noticed more oil in the
coolant reservoir, so I took it back again to Arnold Clark, to which the
head mechanic said it was only tiny remains of oil from the previous week
and said to me that it posed no problems. Not happy with this I took the
car to my local independent garage and told them the problem, after
leaving the car with them to get checked over I returned a couple of hours
later to be told by the mechanic that the cooling fan was not working
& this has caused the cylinder head gasket to blow which is what is
causing the oil to enter into the coolant system.
I then went straight to Arnold's and told them what I had
been told. After much debating they then decided to check it out &
further to this decided to renew the cooling fan & head gasket. If I didn't
check the coolant within the first month, I would have had to pay around
£600+ in repairs.

I bought a rover from Arnold Clark
in mount Vernon, there were a couple of chips in the paintwork which they
agreed to fix are still unfixed after taking the car back three time to
correct it and failing to do so. On contacting the salesman's manager I
was basically told to piss off saying if I should not have bought the car
so tough. At which point he hung up the phone. 14.2.2004

I bought a 3 month old Ford Mondeo Jan 2003.
It has had a new gearbox, clutch , flywheel and fuel gauge all under
warranty but the car has only done 5,000 miles. That is not the horror
story when I bought the car it only came with one key and the salesmen
said tough get one cut. After phoning Ford they said the car was sold at
auction to AC Motherwell with both keys .And surprise surprise my car
was parked up deadlocks, alarm and immobiliser activated and when I got
up in the morning my car was gone, none of my neighbours heard a thing
it had to be someone with a key. So if you have bought a car that only
came with one key from AC it might not be their in the morning. I tried
to put this on your web site anonymously but it has a error or
something.

My car in now worse now than
when it went in. Broken panels, broken pipes in engine bay and they even
left the induction pipe off the air filter box. This is only just a few of
the issues I have with them. I can see it getting legal15.2.2004

I recently bought a 2 year old Volkswagen Passat from
Arnolds sister company Machargs. When I purchased the car it still had a
years manufacturers warranty and had just been serviced. I also
purchased a service plan which was to be done from Arnold Clark for the
next 2 years.
I recently discovered that the back seats where not
folding down and my headlight bulb kept malfunctioning. I phoned Arnolds
and asked could I book it in to get these looked at. They had a look the
following week and told me that the back seats needed a new mechanical
lock and the head light needed a new loom. I asked if this was under the
warranty and was told it was and to bring it in the following week. I
also arranged for the 40000 mile service to be done on that date.
Once I dropped the car off on the morning of the work I
was told the car will be ready at 3pm, at 1pm I received a phone call
from Arnolds saying that they have noticed that the spare tyre was just
above the legal limit and the anti-freeze was a wee bit weak and also
they recommend that the brake fluid should be changed every 2 years. I
asked how much this work would cost, they said they can do the work
there and then for £125, I said that I would get a few more quotes
first.
At 4pm I went to collect my car only to discover that it
was still in bits. I was then told that the headlight loom was tampered
with since it was inspected the week previous. This meant that they
could not charge this to the warranty and I would have to pay for this.
I explained that I asked the previous week for them to have a look at it
and the mechanic did and the parts person told me that it would be fixed
under the warranty at no charge to me.
There reaction was, "the girl must have been
inexperienced and should not have told you that".
This left me with the fact that I was to pay for the work
for the headlight or they will put the headlight back in the car the way
it came in.
I stated that I wanted the work that was on the Arnold
Clark job card at the price it has stated to be done. They refused,
although they did eventually say they can cover 50% of the cost. By this
time it had been in the garage 2 hours more than it should have been. I
refused to pay the 50% because of the fact I was being messed about.
accused of destroying the loom and the level of courtesy in the staff I
had dealt with.
I was told to speak to the Manager, who was off that day,
in a few days time.
I will be speaking to the Manager to get this resolved,
also on further investigation, some of the service has not been done.
